Why Design and Implementation are Equally Important
In interior design, the design and implementation phases are equally essential because a compelling vision is only as successful as its execution. One establishes the creative direction; the other brings that vision to life with precision and collaboration. As a designer, I want to be there for all of it! My job is to be there for it all.
Design: Establishing the vision
The design phase lays the foundation for the entire project. During this phase, I learn about your needs, lifestyle, and aspirations and translate it all into a cohesive design vision. I combine architecture, materials, space planning, furnishings, and proportions to make sure each space has a distinctive point of view. Beyond establishing the design direction, this is when we work together to establish and allocate the project budget, ensuring that there are no surprises. Every decision is carefully considered and thoroughly documented to provide an easy-to-follow roadmap for the implementation ahead.
Implementation: Bringing the vision to life
The implementation – or construction – phase is when we turn the design into a fully-realized home. Complex projects involve the coordination of many people, making a comprehensive design plan essential to ensure every detail is carried through as intended. From construction oversight and procurement to installation and final styling, thoughtful coordination is what keeps the project moving forward according to the original vision. It is where craftsmanship, problem-solving, and attention to detail make the difference between a design that looks compelling on paper and one that feels exceptional in person.
Why Both Matter
Design without implementation means leaving a project undone. Implementation without thoughtful design lacks the clarity and cohesion needed to create a meaningful result. Together, they ensure that each decision – from the architectural framework to the final finishing touch – contributes to a home that feels intentional, enduring, and connected to the people who live within it.
